The Believe capsules, tablets and chewable tablets (multivitamins & minerals) have been specifically developed for individuals who have undergone a sleeve gastrectomy or gastric band surgery. After the placement of a gastric band, your body does not receive sufficient nutrients to keep you feeling fit enough without additional supplements. The Believe capsules, tablets, and chewable tablets ensure that you receive the necessary vitamins and minerals in the correct dosage daily as a supplement to your diet following your sleeve gastrectomy or gastric band surgery.

Calcium after your gastric band

After your weight loss surgery, you will also consume less calcium, and your body truly cannot function without it! Calcium is an important nutrient that ensures the maintenance of strong bones and teeth and contributes to the normal functioning of your muscles.

Elan has developed the Calcium Soft Chew, Calcium Vital tablets and the Calcium Chew chewable tablets  specifically for people who have had weight loss surgery to supplement your daily requirements. Elan’s calcium products contain calcium citrate, as this form of calcium is well absorbed by your body. Additionally, vitamin D3 has been added to Elan’s calcium products, as this increases calcium absorption in your bones. Calcium and vitamin D3 contribute to the maintenance of strong bones and teeth.

How much calcium is needed?

The amount of calcium needed depends on the type of surgery and the individual’s specific situation.
Based on the internationally recognized guidelines of the scientific societies (ASMBS and IFSO), a daily intake of at least 1,200–1,500 mg is recommended.

It is also important to limit each dose to a maximum of 500 mg of calcium so that the body has sufficient time to absorb it.

Important

Calcium is not included in Elan’s Believe products because calcium inhibits the absorption of iron. There should be at least 2 hours between taking Elan’s Believe and calcium products, so that your body has sufficient time to absorb the iron properly.
